In this interview, Hoffman UK founder and author, Tim Laurence, reminds us that long-lasting change only happens if you change from the inside and commit to new behaviour. Happiness doesn't happen just by hanging more baubles on the Christmas tree...
"I don't think words by themselves could ever completely convey the depth of the actual Hoffman experience. The exercises in the book are there to get things going. If someone then wants to do the Process, they'll be better prepared. If they've already done the Process, it's an accessible reminder of the exercises and principles that they've learned.
Tim also has some great suggestions on how to navigate the choppy waters of family gatherings this December. "My prescription is; 'Communication with liberal doses of patience'. Remember that your family may still see you in a certain role. If you don't act that way, they're confused. Keep talking, and if it's appropriate, let people know what's going on with you on a deeper level. It may even open the floor up to others and get a real conversation going, rather than just a safe but superficial one."

Rachel Kelly, Hoffman Graduate and author of Black Rainbow, has just launched her new book Walking on Sunshine.
This amusingly illustrated book offers 52 tips, tools and positive ideas (one for each week of the year) to better manage everyday pressures. Fellow Hoffman Graduate, Oliver James describes the book as 'age-old wisdom delivered with new magic.' We asked Rachel what motivated her to start writing again:
" Walking on Sunshine seemed to write itself following the publication of my memoir Black Rainbow in 2014 on how I'd suffered from debilitating depression. I began to keep a diary of my year, detailing the salad bowl of strategies I use to keep calm and steady as challenges arise through the seasons. Some techniques I've relied on for years; others reflect new ones that others have shared with me in the course of my work.
Many ideas reflect what I learnt at the Hoffman Process: the need to accept rather than deny difficult feelings, especially anger; the importance of fun, so often forgotten in our hectic rush; the links between body and mind; and the importance of creating a personal sanctuary through visualisation - in my case with the help of poetry. Thank you Hoffman." Rachel now run workshops for mental health charities including Mind and Depression Alliance and she is an Ambassador for SANE.

Try this Mindful meditation to keep you present this December.
PREPARATION
Sit in a comfortable chair, one in which you can easily sit up straight. Close your eyes, then gently open them slightly with your gaze comfortably lowered downwards.
MEDITATION
Start by watching the process of your breathing. Just observe each breath as it happens, whether you focus on the rise and fall of your stomach, or on the feeling of the breath at the nostrils. Don't control your breathing. Just observe it as it happens.
You may find your mind wandering, either because of distractions or simply ideas popping
up. When you notice this, accept it and let it go, returning to the observation of your breath.
FINISHING
Take a few minutes to really feel connected with the present. Spread your awareness from
your breathing into your body, tracking through it for sensations. Then take your attention to
the space around you, allow your gaze to take in more light and colour, and re-join the world.
Welcome back. Now gently reconnect with your day and remember to breathe.
