A Search For Identity: Personal Trainer Dan Newberry

'For as long as I can remember, I knew that I was adopted. The adoption happened when I was six months old and I was fortunate to be raised by a family who gave me opportunities for a good life.

Meeting my biological family and learning about my mum brought up lots of emotions for me. I also went back to see my adoptive family in 2022 and this stirred up old feelings in me that I felt I needed to work on. A friend mentioned Hoffman and I liked the idea of having a week without distractions to process what I’d been through and work out who I really was.

The Process helped me get clarity on my past and on the behaviour of my adoptive parents and how I responded to them... Overall, I now feel more positive about myself. Getting in touch with my biological mum helped me realise that I am loved and loveable. I don’t feel the need for as much external validation as I did. I generally feel more self-love. I feel that I’ve made enough peace with the past to move on and look forwards rather than backwards. The result of this is that my depression has lifted and this has been noted by my sister, my mum and my dad. I’m generally not as hard on myself as I used to be.'

Maximum You: New book by Hoffman graduate Emilie

To find out more about Maximum You, click here

Hoffman graduate Emilie West is a business, leadership and wellbeing consultant who is passionate about empowering individuals achieve their goals through positive change. Her new book, Maximum You, is set to be launched this month.

Emilie says, 'Becoming an author and publishing Maximum You is a dream come true. For a long time I have wanted to be able to share what I have learnt as a coach more broadly, sharing the practical exercises and reflection questions that have helped my clients step into their authentic power.

Maximum You will help you to develop a better understanding of yourself and the tools you can use to help you live your most fulfilled and happy life, whilst being authentic'.

Emilie did the Process in 2016, and Hoffman gets several great mentions along the way; 'I was always wanting to help people, as a result I said yes to any request I received to help a charity, join a committee, or mentor someone. I would then end up with an overfilled diary, feeling exhausted and under-supported and would resent people for asking me for more help. Through the Hoffman Process I was able to see that I was responsible for this cycle and that I needed to be more selective with what I said yes to, whilst also building the support into my life that I needed to stay balanced and well...'

Emilie is currenlty offering a free chapter of Maximum You ahead of publication. To find our more, click here

Making Relationships Work is a two-day workshop for couples looking for a relationship full of intimacy, trust, optimism and fulfilment. It's led by Hoffman UK facilitator Matthew Pruen and Family & Systemic Constellations coach Emma Pruen.

No previous experience of relationship work or Hoffman techniques is needed; just open-hearted curiosity and the willingness to find meaningful breakthrough in any areas which have become stuck. This will be especially supportive for couples who feel trapped in repeating patterns of failed communication, blame and breakdown of trust.

Dates: Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 March

Venue: Maven, Winchester

Times: 9.15am for a 9.30am start. We’ll finish at 5.00pm.

Cost: £600 per couple; a £200 deposit reserves your space

'You saved our relationship in one gentle, powerful and life-changing weekend. It honestly felt like someone had waved a magic wand - I could never expected to have walked away feeling so deeply back on track '~ Previous participant
