Magical Hoffman by Matthew Todd |
|
|
|
Hoffman Graduate and award winning magazine editor Matthew Todd talks about the Hoffman Process, both in an article in Attitude magazine, and in his new book, Straight Jacket: How To Be Gay and Happy.
Matthew is best known for being the editor of the UK's leading gay magazine
Attitude; he's also
a playwright, stand up comedian, award-winning journalist and campaigner for LGBT rights.
Speaking of his time on the Process, Matthew describes his experience as 'hardcore', but also 'the most powerful single thing that I did in my ongoing journey of recovery. It was emotional and magical and I learned a lot about how important it is to focus on emotional and mental health.'
'It might sound ridiculous, but as someone who has found it hard to relax and enjoy holidays, this was like a holiday for me...'
We wish Matthew Hoffman light and energy as he tours the UK promoting his book. You can join him on his Matthew Todd Facebook page, and read the
Attitude article on Hoffman

Feeling fabulous with Jane Horrocks
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Jane pictured here at the Ab Fab premier, with best friend and Hoffman co-founder, Serena Gordon |
Jane Horrocks has been wowing us for years with her versatility as an actress. The range of work - from
Life is Sweet,
The Rise and Fall of Little Voice to
Chicken Run,
Fifi and the Flowertots and
Trollied - has earned her the reputation for being incredibly touching, funny, courageous and always willing to push the boundaries. After almost 25 years of playing Bubble in
Absolutely Fabulous on television, this week she was on the gold carpet in Leicester Square for the premier of
Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie,
now on national release.
This autumn, Jane is appearing at the Old Vic Theatre as Regan in King Lear, with Glenda Jackson in the title role.
Jane did the Hoffman Process in 2015. Here's what she says:
'I got to a point where I was stuck in my life and didn't know where I wanted to go.
I had lost touch with my fun self.
I found the Process very moving. One of the reasons I did it was I lost touch with my younger self and I felt bogged down by being a grown up and a parent.
People go to the Process at rock bottom, but by the end you're elevated not only by yourself but by other people's honesty and courage. You emerge a more aware, happy person and more conscious of what you can achieve in the future. When I finished I didn't feel frightened by joining the real world, it was lovely to share it with my family.
Creatively I feel much brighter, and lighter and excited by things, and that's what the Process encourages you to do, to break down old habits and go out and try something new.'

Come to our first Hoffman Light Bulb discussion group on 'Hoffman for young people'
'My dream,' Bob Hoffman said, 'is that this work will eventually be recognised by all scientific communities, that it will be recognised by the educational pontiffs of the world and that it will be placed into compulsory educational programmes.'
Many of you have asked whether we could do something for young people. Can Hoffman be taught in schools? If only Hoffman was available to teenagers, youth at risk, young offenders...
This September we are going to hold an open evening, hosted by Hoffman UK co-founder Serena Gordon, for discussing exactly these issues.
It would be great to gather as many wise minds as we can to discuss a way forward. If you are a Hoffman graduate and you work with children, are a teacher, connected to a school, youth trainer, care worker or family therapist you are invited to come along.
Date: Wednesday 7 September
Time: 6.30pm - 9.00pm
Venue:Bazalgette room, House of St Barnabas, 1 Greek Street,SoHo, London W1D4NQ
Gorgeous venue and drinks provided. Click
here to email Serena with your interest.
