Hoffman graduate e-newsletter | May 2019
Hoffman grad Hilary Gallo built a career out of solving complex negotiations for large corporate organisations. In 2016, he published his first book, The Power of Soft, outlining an ethos that 'started as a negotiation tactic and soon became a philosophy for life.' With the launch of his latest work, Fear Hack , Hilary has turned his attention to the role that fear can play in holding us back, and what we can do to challenge our fears.

'I noticed that people adopted positions an d became locked into what they believed was true. When they wanted a certain outcome, what kept them stuck was not the lack of will to do it but the fact that they simply didn’t act. It wasn’t long before I also saw this pattern in myself...

Eventually a consistent theme emerged - fear. By this I mean fear in the widest possible sense – not just fear of what might go wrong, but fear of loss, abandonment or uncertainty masked as fear. What I noticed was that fear was the substrata to most of life’s sticky issues. Where there was a problem, there was generally fear sitting at its heart...'

Celebrating the life force of earth protector Polly Higgins
We're practicing gratitude and appreciation for having encountered the extraordinary spirit of Polly Higgins , environmental campaigner and our charitable partner who sadly passed away last week .

Polly was an inspirational figure in the environmental movement, working tirelessly to give a voice to our planet by campaigning for the crime of ecocide. Her work will be carried on by her eradicating ecocide team and by the ever-growing community of earth protectors that she helped to launch.

Polly, you will always be a shining light in our universe. When we joined with Earth Community Trust we created the tag line together: ‘Where inner and outer worlds meet.’ You embodied that in everything that you did, and we will always remember you. Thank you for being such a friend and champion of the Hoffman Process.
Let's send a huge wave of support to all Hoffies running the 2019 Virgin London Marathon today - the biggest single-day fundraising event in the UK charity calendar.

Hoffman grad Karen Astbury will be one of the 40 thousand runners lining up this morning. Karen was inspired to take part by her friendship with children's author Jo Yaldren , who she met on the Process. Karen says;

'Jo was my roommate at Florence House. During that week we laughed together, cried together, danced together and stayed silent together, and I knew instantly I had met a kindred spirit. Learning of Jo’s Parkinson’s diagnosis not long after we graduated was devastating, but watching her draw on every bit of her Hoffman spirit since then has been nothing short of inspiring.

Taking part in the London Marathon has always been an ambition, and running for Jo and Parkinson’s UK will be an honour. It’s been a team effort, and together we have raised over £6,000, raised awareness, and inspired others. Jo - this is for you!'

May's top tip: how critical are you?
Listen out for those moments this month when you might be drawn to be critical of others. Who did you learn that pattern from?

Make a conscious effort to stop worrying about how other people are behaving, and start to focus on whether you might demonstrate some of those behaviours yourself.

If you spot it, you've got it. Time to download a Transference worksheet?
