Strengthening my foundations, by property developer Garry Simpson

To read Garry's article, click here

'As a property developer, I know that whatever structure you build, however many levels you add or face lifts you undertake, if your foundation is out of alignment then you’ll be permanently flawed, unstable or vulnerable. I knew the same was true of me.

Even though outwardly I was successful, inwardly I often felt an overwhelming sense of guilt, under-achievement and lack of self-worth. I continuously told myself I had nothing to complain about, but that wasn’t a solution and it didn’t fill the void.

Hoffman helped me understand that what I’d previously labelled as ‘mood swings’ were simply times I was connecting to different aspects of myself. I finally understood why I experienced my inner child as so needy, why my intellect was so analytical and my adult self was so critical. I made peace between these parts of myself which allowed me to reconnect and engage my spiritual or authentic self, which had been silenced for too long. I let go of deep-rooted feelings of shame, guilt and resentment, replacing hate with love. It also helped me make peace with my parents, which I am so grateful for...'

It is with huge respect that we share a recent interview that Charles Spencer recorded with therapist Julia Samuel MBE on her Therapy Works podcast. In this very sensitive and highly personal interview, Charles speaks about experiencing abuse as a young boy at boarding school, and the lasting impact it has had on his mental health.

He shares how 40 years later, doing therapy, EMDR and the Hoffman Process he has found the strength to share his story with a wider audience. Charles' memoir, A Very Private School is available for purchase now, in print or as an audiobook.

'An incredible week of enlightenment' Oliver Hudson on Hoffman

Along with his sister Kate, actor Oliver Hudson co-hosts a podcast series called Sibling Revelry which explores the sibling bond, family dynamics, the world of wellbeing and more.

In March's episode, Let the games begin, Oliver (pictured here with his mother, actress Goldie Hawn) shared his experience of the Hoffman Process with guest interviewees, athletes Bode Miller and Morgan Beck.

'It’s an incredible week of enlightenment on who your parents are. The forgiveness and the compassion that you feel towards them at the end of this process is unbelievable because then you realize that they’re only repeating the shit that they went through, you know, with their parents. The forgiveness of my father was huge because his dad left him when he was five years old – in the middle of the night, gone. You know, my dad didn’t do exactly that, but essentially he bailed, you know, so I can’t always help but think when we’re parenting, like what am I imprinting..?'
