Tracks in the Sand: by translator and linguist Sophie Cherel

'This is not a success story and I have no advice to give you. All I have are a few impressions emanating from two facts: one, I did the Hoffman Process and two, my life changed completely. That’s not miraculous; it’s not even out of the ordinary. Life changes. Life is change. The amazing thing is how hard we fight that.

Like baby birds bored of their nest, we have to be pushed out. Only then do we discover the wider world. The thing is, occasionally, our wings don’t open…

But enough about birds. I’ve got to lay my cards on the table now and that doesn’t come easily. So allow me to start with Tintin. In The Land of Black Gold, the incompetent detectives Thomson and Thompson get lost while driving in the desert. After a time, they find a set of tracks in the sand. 'Praise be,' they say, 'we’ve found our way!' They follow the tracks, and soon more tracks appear, and more: 'This is a highway!'

It turns out, of course, that they’re following their own tracks. They’re going around in circles. That was me, before Hoffman...'

Escape with a new book from Hoffman grad Carrie Walker

To read Carrie's Process Story, click here

Overall, I got a sense of freedom from doing the Process, from cutting ties and standing on my own two feet. This new understanding about who I was as a person only reinforced my want to make a change, but I still wasn’t totally sure how to do it. I got there eventually.

We moved house in 2022 and two weeks into our new house – still surrounded by boxes – I had an email from one of the publishers I’d sent my book to the year before. They wanted to work with me. I signed a two-book deal three months later and my first book Escape to the Swiss Chalet came out in 2023, This was followed by Escape to the Tuscan Vineyardwhich was published in May 2024.

Following the Right Road while battling my 'poverty patterns' is a daily challenge. I want to stay true to my creative soul and not run screaming down what Hoffman calls ‘the Left Road’, but the panic is always there. ‘What if my book doesn’t sell? What if everyone thinks it’s rubbish? When should I get another real job?’ My inner critic is constantly being told to SHUT UP; but at least I now have the tools to spot its voice and dial down its messages...'

Introduction Day 30 June: with Hoffman MD Serena Gordon

For more information and to book, click here

Hoffman Introduction Days are one-day workshops led by members of the Hoffman facilitating team. They’re hands-on, using techniques from the Process itself, so whether you go on to do the full seven-day course or not, you will definitely learn some useful skills and practical tools to help you with your day-to-day life.

Our Introduction Day in June will be led by Supervising Hoffman Facilitator and Managing Director, Serena Gordon (pictured). Serena is one of the co-founders of Hoffman UK, with nearly three decades of experience of the tools and techniques – so if you’ve got questions, here’s a great opportunity to ask them in person.

If you’re already interested in signing up to a Process date, the day will provide the chance to try a mini-taster before you commit. It can also be an illuminating workshop for partners/family members of people who have completed the Process, as it gives you an insight into what they have learned.

What’s more, if you do go on to do the residential Hoffman Process within 12 months of an Introduction Day, you’ll receive £100 discount on your future Process fee.

Date: Sunday 30 June

Time: Arrive from 9.30am for a 10.00am start. We aim to finish by 5.00pm
